    PART-TIME LIBRARIAN

    The City of Philadelphia, Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a part-time librarian to manage the library at the Ryerss Museum and Library, a small community library located within a historic house museum in Burholme Park in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia. The library is open to the public 10-4, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with flexible weekend scheduling. Rate of pay is $16.00 per hour. Position is immediately available.

    DESCRIPTION OF POSITION This is library patron service and support work assisting the public with the circulation and borrowing process, location of library materials, and library receipt and preparation. Librarians perform a variety of duties in connection with shelving, arrangement, sorting, dispatching and filing of library materials. Emphasis will also be on cataloging, acquisitions and organization. Must be able to work with and organize volunteers. The librarian is responsible for all day-to-day operations, including opening and closing the facility. Must demonstrate strong communication skills and work independently. Ability to work two weekends per month is required. This position is shared with another librarian. Expect approximately 36 hours of work per month.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates general knowledge and understanding of basic library operations that includes standard Library of Congress Classification System, national cataloging rules and other pertinent standard library procedures and systems. Ideally, candidates will possess a fifth-year degree from an accredited school of library science, which included coursework in library services for children.

    PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry materials weighing up to 40lbs.
